I build a table for my TV and maybe my laptop in order to respond to. What would be the best kind of wood to the top of the table and stands. I use primarily for 2X4 media. Thank you!

Maybe you should look at a plywood desk with formica laminate? This results in an area a good job.
Buy AC plywood or 3 / 4 "pine, or spend a little more and the quality birch plywood cabinet.
Formica comes in a variety of colors, patterns and textures and is easy to implement.
If you opt for the birch woods and want a natural wood finish, the birch has a very good place, but since you have 2 x 4 for the legs, perhaps a start would be laminated.
To use the birch wood with a colored surface, you buy banding edge band, which can be used with current flat iron.
